Several months ago I ran an auction and after starting auction I took additional photos and tried to add them to the ebay page. The ebay program would not let me. I called tech support and was told I had to cancel the bid on it first, then I could update/change the text & photos, and then ask the bidder to re-bid.
Several months passed and last week I ran the auction for a jacket on ebay. The auction for this jacket resulted in people requesting additional photos. It also resulted in a 1-in-a-million chance, a golden opportunity. A WWII crew member of the actual "Goin My Way" B-17 aircraft took a color photo of his plane with the Bugs Bunny logo clearly shown. The photo survived the war and all the years since then and was passed down in his family. All these years later his son just happened to surf ebay and saw my jacket with his fathers nose art on it. He e-mailed me the link to the original WWII color photograph of the plane.
With the additional photos ready as well as the info and photo from the son of one of the original crew members I tried to update the added text and photos to the ebay ad the way ebay walked me though it last time... 1) cancel any bids, and then 2) make changes, then 3) ask bidders to re-bid.... except this time even after canceling the bids, all it did was add a copy of the whole ad below the whole ad, so I tried pasting over it again, and it ended up being about an 8 ft long webpage ad! I ended up posting 4 duplicate ads on top of each other.. so instead of a better ad, I ended up with a page that was HUGE & took forever to load, and only if you would scroll down to the very very bottom would you finally see the new photos I added.
I called tech support at ebay again and got the run around. Finally after talking to 2 techs and 1 supervisor, they said they don't do it the way they told me last time anymore. They refused to allow me to fix it - well they said there was no way to start over, or revert... that all additions & changes were permanent and the only way to add the new photos was to start a whole new ad. They said there was nothing I can do, the rules have been changed (again), and while they understand the benefit of better photos, they said that because of bad sellers, good sellers like me were closed out of adding any new photos.
In my opinion the additional photos were important to the bidders. I am upset that ebay's only solution was to completely cancel the auction and start over from scratch. I am sorry to the 60 people who had book marked it and to the bidders. I am just as frustrated if not more so than you are.

To Whom it may concern
at ebay,
It has come to my attention that sellers are stopped from adding additional photos to auctions once a single bid has been placed, and are even prevented from adding photos & descriptive text re: the photos EVEN IF THEY CANCEL ALL THE BIDS! This is counterproductive to my experience as a buyer. If a seller has new photos that show details more clearly then he should be allowed to add them. Adding photos would make my buying experience better, would save me time & resources by not having to ask and then wait hours/days for the new photos to be e-mailed to me, and then having to download and view them without of context of the ad or addition text bellow each photo. I want to be able to see the freshest photos, as well as be able to see photos that might be asked for by other viewers as well. They might have asked for a photo of something I didn't think to ask about as well as content that might have been added or corrected by other helpful viewers. Your policy contributes to forcing me to make a less informed buying decision, instead of making the best possibly informed buying decision! Your policy is contrary to my best interests as a buyer. Please change your
policy ASAP and allow sellers to add as more detail, information, and photos
as the auction progresses - this is in the best interest of me the buyer
(who wants to be informed) as well as the seller and ultimately ebay as
well with happier better informed transactions.
